EMPIRE OF THE SUN - ASK THAT GOD

Often times, now a days, listening to albums in their entirety can be hard. We live in a high paced society that treasures singles over the depths of listening to albums.

It has that EDM vibe (which I love) with a hint of classic indie pop. The music alone is MAGICAL but the songwiriting is fantastic. The songs speak to a whole other level then your traditional pop hits. As someone who’s passion projects encompass all aspects the two vibes together that this duo and the songwriters are unmatched. This has been the summer/spring album to my entire summer. This combination of all aspects of the project really showed how the artists feel. You can hear this on “Music On the Radio” where the group and the songwriters talk about how they do not like the music that they play on the radio. It is interesting to hear this as a song because, as my view on the music industry and what I have been told, it is frustrating to be an artist and have significant radio play while not chained to a major label that barely pays the artist anything or not enough to survive.

The music video for Cherry Blossom was so intriguing and I loved watching every bit of it. It is evident how hard the group did to make this experience unique. I can honestly say that there is no listening fatigue to this album and I love blasting some part of it every day.

I had the opportunity to go and see the band live. This was my first intimate concert in a very long time. My friend Christina came with me, which I was very thankful. I got us the VIP tickets because there were still some left and it was cheaper to buy the VIP tickets to the concert rather than the GA tix from third party provider. I am so happy that I went.. I have a tendency to cancel last minute or just never go because I do not have anyone to go with. The whole place was magical and I really left feeling very inspired. I felt resurrected and remembered why I always made the effort to go to concerts. That is where I feel at home. Positive energy is always felt and the moment you realize that these people, who conceptually wrote and put into a project, are real. This was someone’s hard work and energy manifested to entertain others.

It was truly an honor to have been apart of this album and by that, consuming the music and just having a great time.

Until next time,

Penelope
